U-Wipe

INTRODUCTION

U-Wipe is an excellent privacy program designed to cover all traces and tracks of what you do with your computer. U-Wipe removes all of the information found in cache and temporary folders, information that could be incriminating with your boss or spouse. Nobody wants people snooping in their private life, and U-Wipe is just the piece of software you need to prevent that. As an added bonus U-Wipe also includes a spyware blocker, and pop up killer to make your web browsing experience a little more enjoyable. U-Wipe is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, NT, and ME, and supports IE, MS office, Netscape, and Mozilla.

INSTALLATION & SETUP

Installation of U-Wipe is a simple problem free process. The software is distributed in a compressed archive which can be opened with Winzip, Winace or any other generic extraction software. Inside is a simple executable file which installs U-Wipe.

Setup of U-Wipe is also very simple, and the software comes preconfigured to meet just about any persons needs. If you feel the need to customize there are options available to clean on system start up, avoid showing the logo, among others in the screenshot. (See Fig. 1.0)

INTERFACE & EASE OF USE

U-Wipe is a very easy to use program. The interface is a very sleek looking gunmetal grey console, with buttons for options, cleaning depth, and clean. It is important to select your cleaning option before covering up your tracks, because it allows you to control the degree of cleaning that will be performed. Step one basically deletes everything with the same technique used if you were to manually delete the files and remove them from the recycle bin, and the full depth renders files unrecoverable even by hardware data recovery tools.

FUNCTIONALITY

After carefully selecting the cleaning options, U-Wipe will remove everything from designated folders on your hard drive, such as temporary Internet files, and other temp folders that store information found on websites you have recently visited. Aside from adult pictures and other things people commonly want to keep to themselves, there are many malicious people out there who use cookies to gather information about you, and sell it to advertising companies, or worse. U-Wipe can prevent all of this by keeping this information deleted for you. (See Fig. 1.2)

CONCLUSION

U-Wipe is an excellent piece of software, sure to get the job done in a quick simple manner. It is not often a program can be so easy to use, and still retain good functionality. The added bonus of a popup and spyware killer is very appealing as well, helping make U-Wipe the best choice when it comes to privacy.
