| Robo-FTP
INTRODUCTION Robo-FTP is a very unique script driven FTP client designed to be useful for both advanced computer users, or those who are slightly less experienced. Robo-FTP allows a user to plan FTP actions ahead of time using Robo-FTP's unique, easy to learn scripting language. Additionally Robo-FTP provides users with support for SSL and SSH connections and PGP encryption and decryption to ensure secure file transfers. INSTALLATION & SETUP Installation of Robo-FTP was a snap. A simple self extracting file will bring you to the setup screen where you are given a few install options to customize things to your liking. Once the install is complete and Robo-FTP starts, a very helpful automated tutorial begins, explaining some of the basics of the Robo-FTP scripting language (See Fig. 1.0) I must also add that there is a very friendly option to turn off the "nagging popup" when you start the program, a very nice touch. This first tutorial will take a new user through the steps necessary to create a simple script file that will download some files from the Robo-FTP server. INTERFACE AND FUNCTIONALITY Robo-FTP uses a very well laid out interface, with easy to find functions. Options are available to open and close scripts, with a large display of the current script below the toolbar. (See Fig. 1.1) Fig. 1.1
When working with a script driven FTP client, the level of versatility is increased ten fold. A lot of other FTP clients such as WS FTP and Cute FTP offer basic scripting, but cannot possibly match the advanced features included in Robo-FTP such as advanced error detection, which will make your somewhat buggy script work properly! Script based FTP clients are excellent for applications where you need to have certain scheduled uploading and downloading throughout a day, without actually having a person there to perform them. This kind of functionality can be used in many ways; one way I have used it so far, has been to automatically download our php listing file every day, to stay current on the list of reviews. I must also add that the script to do this job took all of 5 minutes to create. One thing I must point out here, is that not everyone is a programmer. Robo-FTP has been designed to make the scripting language very easy to learn, but some basic programming knowledge would definitely be beneficial. At any time, a user can hover their mouse pointer over a script command and hit F1 to bring up all of the help pertaining to that function. This is just one of many ways Robo-SOFT has made Robo-FTP easy to use. An easier way to create scripts is to use the script wizard function, which basically lets you choose the commands in order, while the program generates the script .txt file for you. In the case where things need to be more simple, for a manned download, there is a C/C++ component for basic click driven FTP usage. (See Fig. 1.3) Fig. 1.3

CONCLUSION Robo-FTP is the perfect solution for timed and scripted FTP sessions. No other program includes even half of the features available in Robo-FTP, and the scripting language used in Robo-FTP is easy to use, yet complex enough to make almost anything possible. Some other batch FTP products tend to be missing some important features found even in desktop FTP solutions, such as security and encryption. RoboFTP is definitely the only choice for scripted FTP applications, and is highly acclaimed here at Transit-Network.com.
