INTRODUCTION

Beyond Compare 2 is a very usefull tool for many people with a compilation of documents, source code, webpages, etc. It checks for differences between two different copies, and gives the user all the information they could use for updating, or varifying.

INSTALLATION

There was a straightforward installation, just pick the directory, decide on where the shortcuts go, and you're done.

CONFIGURATION

Configuration is easy, just choose the locations of the two folders, files, or ftp directories to compare, and click ok.

INTERFACE

The interface couldn't be easier to use. There are a left and a right side, with a nice color code to show if the files/folders are in sync. Many tool buttons lining the top allow quick and easy manipulation of the data.

FUNCTIONALITY

As the publisher of a website, I was able to test the application right away, to compare the local contents on my hard drive to the online copy. Beyond Compare 2 showed me what folders had extra files, and which documents needed to be updated all within 5 minutes. Even with it's simple looks and easy navigation, the application is heavily configurable. There are many options to play with such as different ways to backup files, synchronizing options and definable rules. With the addition of plug-ins such as a hex viewer, a pix viewer, and even a version information viewer.

CONCLUSION

Beyond Compare 2 offers an easy and speedy solution for comparing and synchronizing files, folders, ftp directories, or zip files. I would recommend this product to anyone with a lot, or very little technical knowledge who writes or keeps multiple copies of files in different places.
